A lot of the material Mimi shares comes from a life of soaking up the wisdom and experience of others. While a book of her own is a work in progress (you get bonus points if you ask, "How's the book coming?" when you meet her), Mimi uses these titles as references for some of the material she shares. Some are listed just because Mimi loves them and hopes you will, too.

Seven Habits of Highly Effective People — Stephen R. Covey

This is the only 'self help' book I've ever read cover to cover. I find the truths of Covey's teachings to be as true for me today as when I initially read them in the early 90s.

The Road Less Traveled — M. Scott Peck, M.D.

When I was engaged to be married in 1984, this is the only book the minister who married us recommended we read. It had a profound impact on the way I grew into the world.

Good to Great — Jim Collins

I love this book! It supports much of what I believe about effective organizations and particularly, effective leaders.

The Four Agreements — Don Miguel Ruiz

This little book makes it all so simple...and it really is. While much of it seems as if it should be a given, remembering not to take things personally and to guard against assumptions are pieces of advice I need to read again and again!

Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now — Maya Angelou

I shared words from this book in my first Blooming Where You're Planted presentation in 1994, and I still do today. I have had the pleasure of hearing Maya Angelou in person, so I know she lives and breathes; but I still feel as if she resides in my heart.

Mountains Beyond Mountains — Tracy Kidder

This biography of Dr. Paul Farmer helped broaden the framework of my world view and affirmed what I believe to the core of my being about helping 'the least of these'.

Traveling Mercies, Some Thoughts on Faith — Anne Lamott

I love Anne Lamott's books. I think if I met her, I would love Anne Lamott! This is a great book to read regardless of where you are on your own faith journey. It's especially great if you hear me say, 'when I'm not enough, I know God is.' and you just don't understand how someone could have that kind of faith. While I've had the comfort of that sustaining power all my life, Anne's story will help anyone understand that God has been holding them up all along.
